The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

lisbeth salander the girl with the dragon tattoo

I’ve been flying through the Millenium trilogy, aka The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series. Its pacing is somewhat inconsistent, occasionally going into lengthy, meandering exposition to set up a significant plot point, or dumping an intricate history of a newly introduced character in your lap all at once. But those complaints are minor, because the series’ highs are significantly higher than its lowest lows!

I think Lisbeth Salander is a fantastically fleshed out character with a great back story and a personality that makes getting through all the Salander-less chapters almost a chore just so I can get back to more of her anti-social antics! I haven’t seen the American version of the first film, but I did watch the Swedish version on Netflix. It was pretty good, and actually made some minor changes that I’d thought would’ve been good for a movie while reading the book, but over all I think the characterization in the book is far stronger.

I haven't read the books, but I have seen the Swedish films. I've also seen the American version, and it was just as good as the Swedish one. Each has certain things that were better than the other versions. I think the biggest debate is which actress people liked more for Lisbeth. Both were excellent, but I think Noomi Rapace was just a little bit better.

There is no Swish version only the Swedish one.

  • Is there confirmation that there will be sequels to the American film? I don't know how well it did at the box office.

There was confirmation, I heard it through Rotten Tomatoes. The two main actors will be back fro the sequel. The box office was okay, considering how gritty the material was.

I'm in the complete opposite camp: I've only seen the American movie version. Basically, I could choose to read the books, then see the European trilogy, then wait for each American movie to come out... but I'm tempted to just let the American ones unfold organically. It's a long wait, but that was I won't confuse them or get hung up on which version is the "best" or "worst."
